Ms. Martini Ministry
I don’t know her personally so I can’t exactly vouch for the effectiveness of her methods. Lol! But I do like the idea of what she’s doing—welcoming Christ into places where he is normally excluded and treating him like he belongs there because he does! For goodness sake, Jesus was quite the party frequenter in his day. He was an accused drunkard and glutton [Matthew 11:19]. Geez! The Son of God understood that to reach people, it’s best to be where the people are. (Just a thought!)
Now obviously, that train of thought could and should spawn all sorts of valid theological and practical discussions. I doubt God wants every Christian to cancel their evening plans and show up at the local bar—especially those of us who can’t hold our liquor!—but there is value in questioning what sorts of opportunities to impact with those around us we may be missing by our unwillingness to consider elements of ordinary life as extraordinarily important moments for connection. Hmmm. That means we’d have to dismiss the alleged Sacred/Secular Divide. Frightening! Absolutely bone-chilling...

A dirty Martini is always my choice be there no wine around! (And I've got to find those lovely little Roman swords she's accented hers with!lol)I like the idea somewhat. Hey, it's a start, and I've gotten into many theological debates over a martini! As we know, people who are drinking tend to be more open minded than usual. But when I first went to her blog, for a minute there the picture made me think she was actually serving up martinis at a church while telling bible stories on the flannel board! Lol. I was a little disconcerted. But then I checked the "About" section.
On another note, I totally identify with her obsession with the flannel board! I always wanted one, but in the end I had to settle for Colorforms! (Totally not as gratifying because they rip if you don't peel them right!)
What's even funnier is that today's song stuck in her head is the theme from Goodtimes. For some reason in all of my 24 years it never ever occured to me that #1: White people would WANT to watch Goodtimes, #2: White people could understand (?) and enjoy Goodtimes, and #3: White people even knew the words to the Goodtimes theme song?! Who knew?
as a friend of the martini under discussion, I should mention that she was given the name by a friend who had just vented to her for an hour or more over drinks, thanking her for her "Martini Ministry". And check out her Bollywood recaps; they're hysterical (She was infected a few years ago by the BollyBug)
Yes, I somehow neglected to metion Rachel's Bollyfanaticism! We all need to get together next month so I can give her the proper recognition!
