Me. Sid 27. Came to Illinois to do MS in engg. And worked for 4 years in the movie industry. Totally embarrased when we made a lame ass Sunny Deol DVD in our plant, had a lot of explaining to do about Indian movies. Was searching for good bollywood movie reviews and came here and Beths, now hooked. Currently in Denver freezing my butt.
Indianoguy aka Prasad, 29. grew up in coastal Andhra Pradesh, did my Masters in CS in Scotland, now working as a Software Consultant in Memphis (Wanna get out of here ASAP). My most favorite place is Edinburgh and least favorite is Memphis. Born as a Hindu, Atheist and libertarian by choice, Admire mavericks like Mahatma Gandhi, Noam Chomsky, Jon Stewart etc...
As Akshay kumar says in Jaan-E-man: I like movies, I love movies, in fact movies are in my blood :D
Gee. Since I don't have any hors d'oeuvres to pass around, I'll just greet everyone!
Aisha, you sound like a cool girl. Tech nerds unite! I used to crunch code on my Commodore64 as a kid. (Did I mention kanji was the reason I bailed on Japanese?)
Michael, you'll have to show me around if I go to Germany this year weil Ich spreche nicht Deutsches!
Rachel, you're such a sweetheart! I hope you get to go to India so I can visit vicariously through you!
Beth, you're my blogging hero. If I send you some photos and my acting resume, do you think you could give me some advice? ;)
Naina, I had no idea you were such a committed urbanite. Sacramento is too slow for you girlfriend!
Travel on Traveler! Sounds like you're working on some exciting stuff. Welcome.
Sid! No need to defend yourself. I already know your taste in movies is above reproach. ;) If you really want to stay warm, you should take up snowboarding!
Indianoguy, it sounds like you're a little too well traveled to appreciate the virtues of the Dirty South--of which Memphis is the dirtiest. lol. Hang in there!
T-Hype: You're welcome :)
(but some would say even we south germans don't speak any german :D :D :D )
way too late, as always...
Me, I´m Babasko/Barbara, born in Salzburg, Mozarttown, living in Vienna, Austria. Came to Vienna in 1992 to study Sound Engineering. Now teach the same and more. Adventist by birth now simply Christian by choice.
Married and longtime past lightweight. Love to travel, but India has not happened yet. Hold Beth to the promise of a joint vacation to India in 2008.
Bollywood because everything.
Me: Alan. Mental Age: 25. Actual Age: A bit more. Born in Eastern Washington, now living in Western Washington. Embedded Software Engineer. Wife and daughter both finished college recently, so we plan to start travelling more. Occassional trips down south to Huntsville, Alabama. Some of the folks I work with down there live across the border in Tennessee. Rented a house in Hampton, Virginia eons ago. Have been addicted to Bollywood for many years.
Hey, thanks for the response. I'm watching Dhoom 2 now. Man, that's a good movie with some really good action scenes..like that scene where Hrithik jumps between a bus and then flips over it!I saw Umrao Jaan, and you're right. Suneil Shetty looks a lot like Shemar Moore! Uncanny!
Oh, and Kanji is hard. Really hard. I think it takes people like 5 years to master it because there is so many of those characters! Good to know we have the same interests.:D I will visit here more often for sure!
Better late than never!
Me: Maja (pronounced "Maya", not "Major", please), 23, born in the capital of Slovenia, now live in a small village nearby with my parents and twin brother (and a dog and a black pet bunny). I also have an older sister, who has a 2 1/2-year-old son, who is the cutest and smartest kid in the world. Obviously.
Hobbies include reading, watching movies, eating chocolate and writing overlong comments on other people's blogs. Chronically lazy and a champion procrastinator.
I'm a student of translation, currently on an exchange programme in Nottingham UK and loving the whole experience, except for the bit where I actually have to study. Trying to make the most of all the Bollywood movies that premiere here on the same day as in India, which means I spend most of my money on cinema tickets.
What else ... Love travelling, hate packing. I haven't been outside of Europe yet, but plan on joining Beth and Barbara on the Indian trip in 2008. After I've won the lottery and robbed a few banks.
White from birth, atheist from birth, loving Bollywood since the spring of 2006. Because it's awesome.
Mee Mumbaikar (Thats me Mumbaikar in Marathi). Born and brought up in Bombay, I dont/wont say Mumbai. Stumbled into this blog from good ol' Sepia Mutiny. Software Consultant based in Bangalore but in London now. Hindu agnostic or as Stephen Colbert says, an atheist without balls :p
Useless trivia: Have shook hands with both Bade Miya (Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of KBC) and Chote Miya (Govinda when he came begging for votes in our locality)
Babasko late or early, you're always welcome! Vive Vienna!
No worries Alan, wisdom is always welcome here. ;) I'm inspired by your Bolly-greatness.
Maja, I love travelling and hate packing too! Let's fly to India with nothing and buy new stuff!
lol Mumbaikar on Colbert. Hooray for Sepia Mutiny. If you run into Hrithik, you owe me an autograph!
Talk about delayed reactions. Mine to be precise.
Nisha here. Third-gen Singaporean. Waiting to get into Uni in Australia to do a degree in Criminology. South Indian Hindu by birth. Now I'm just a South Indian who believes in God but not so much in religion. Indian cinema (Not just Bollywood) because i like the idea of escaping from the drudgery of everyday life from time to time. Oh and like Beth, i'm in love with Akshaye Khanna.
Hello to everyone else!
Me: Angela. Born in Pakistan, moved to states when I was 7, changed my name, and now I'm living in Sunny Florida, you gotta love the weather here minus the countless hurricanes and sporadic tornadoes. Currently pursuing a Master's in Taxation (gawk) after pursuing an BS in English Education and realizing that the adolescents don't like me as much as I don't like them. Or maybe I'm just not brave enough, experienced enough or ready enough to take them on. Bollywood has been a major part of my life since 2005, I got hooked and realize its helping me regain some of my roots, even though I'm Muslim not Hindu, I still learn about my culture from Bollywood not to mention the dancing and singing and Arjun Rampal of course keep me hooked for hours!!
Me: MoJo (Yes, people actually call me that. Born in Texas, but have done the whole life thing in Virgina, Colorado, Germany, Florida, Japan, North Carolina, Georgia, California and Australia. I did the education thing and now hold a Master of Music. I don't really do the religion thing, but am very spiritual. Black by birth and Bollywood because it has everything I like in entertainment.
Welcome late arrivals! There's still some snacks left. ;)
Nisha you'll have to enlighten me about life on the gum-chewing-adverse island. I hear it's very nice there in part because there's no gum-chewing...
LOL on adolescents angela. They don't even like each other! Is it just me or are there more models-turned-actor in India?
Hey mojo! You sound well travelled. Don't be a stranger.
Testing.....testing.
Hey, I'm a black fan of Bollywood films--been so for going on 6 years now--great to know I'm not the only one! I'm from Detroit and unemployed hopefully soon to be employed (despite the horrible state of the economy here in Michigan---folks getting laid somewhere practically EVERY damn week--it's pitiful)! I grew up loving musicals,so I got hooked on B-wood films right away. I love the gangster and drama films, too. Completed 3 years of college and hoping to hurry up and get my damn degree before I'm old and decrepit. Ha ha ha! Anyway, I love this blog because it does articulate the problems I've had with watching Bollywood films---like how the leading ladies ALWAYS seem to be light-skinned or more Caucasian-looking (recent movies seem to be turning away from that trend, which is cool)or the sometimes way-too long musical scenes (I love them anyway) or the straight-up nationalistic propaganda films (which are so corny and insane). One time I went to this Indian store near where I lived and was renting out a film when the Indian guy behind the counter asked where I was from. Taken aback,I said, "I'm American--why?" He said that the only people he knew that were into B-wood films besides Indians were either Chinese,African, or European folks. I said I'd been watching them for awaile, and yeah, there were a small number of Amercians who actuallly like B-wood films. That was kind of funny, though!
Oops, what I meant to say was that folks are getting LAID off every week from some type of job--excuse the mistake. Picked my name because it's the Indian word for "enemy" and because I wanted a unique name---plus it's the name of a good thriller co-starring my man Sanjay Dutt of the bloodshot eyes fame!
Hi there!
I'm Sophie, 22, born in Iowa, raised in Phoenix, schooled at Grinnell College and now living in Macau (yes, the former Portugese colony near Hong Kong). My heart was misplaced a couple of years ago in London. I went back to retrieve it not so long ago, but was unsuccessful...it's still there. Been watching Bollywood since 2004. Not much one for religion. I do love how thoughtful your blog is. Not to mention lively, clever and fun! I've just started up my own site to start talking about Bollywood and I'm very excited to have a space to do it!
Welcome dushman no worries about getting old. Adulthood begins at 30...
I'll let you and you alone represent for Mr. Dutt. I'm all for some pretty and that's not exactly his M.O.!
Hey Miss Bolly! Are you the Sophie of Bollywhat? fame?! You'll have to tell me about Macau, I heard it's a fab little isle.
Hello again! No, I'm not the same Sophie as the one from Bollywhat?, unfortunately, although I love that site and have been known to use it quite frequently. I'm a new Sophie. Maybe one day I'll be so cool...

Hi,
I live about two hours outside of Nashvegas! Small world. I was convinced that me and my family were the only odd ball Bollywood fans in the great state of TN! LOL Okay, so you don't live there anymore but it still counts.
My whole family, husband and two teens, love BW. We have even searched out traditional clothing (my hubby and son look cute in their kurta pajams) and my daughter and I love to wear our saris and salwaar kameezes.
We are hoping to learn to speak Hindi and love meeting other people who share our odd fascination with their beautiful culture.
